Jessy's Home Bakes ("we", "us") is a home bakery in Alexandria, Virginia. This policy covers jessysbakes.com and the orders, requests and emails that go through it.

How we use it
- To take, bake and hand off your order, and to email you your receipt, pickup details and pickup address
- To reply to your questions and custom order requests, and to send quotes and payment links you asked for
- To let you know when spots open up, if you joined the waitlist
- To understand how people find and use the site, so we can bake the right amounts and improve it
- To keep records the law requires (for example, sales and tax records) and to handle refunds or payment disputes
We don't send marketing emails unless you've asked to hear from us. Joining the waitlist signs you up for our occasional newsletter with new dates and flavors; every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, and you can also email us to be removed.
How we count visits
We use our own simple, privacy-friendly visit counter instead of advertising or tracking tools. It works like this:
- Your browser keeps a random ID (stored in your browser's local storage, not a cookie) so a return visit isn't counted as a new person. It isn't connected to your name.
- We record what kind of thing happened (for example, "viewed the page", "opened a photo", "added cinnamon rolls", "started checkout"), the time, where the visit came from (such as TikTok or Google), and the general type of device (such as "iPhone").
- We record your approximate city, which our web host looks up from your internet connection. We don't save your IP address, and we never know your street address from a visit.
- If you place a pre-order, we note which visit it came from, so we can see which posts and pages lead to orders.
- We use this to see patterns, like which days are busiest or which posts bring people in. We don't share it, and we don't use it for ads.
To opt out: turn on Global Privacy Control or "Do Not Track" in your browser, and we won't count your visits at all. Clearing this site's data in your browser also resets the random ID.
Cookies
Our own site doesn't set cookies. When you pay, you're taken to a checkout page run by Stripe, which uses its own cookies to process payments and prevent fraud. See Stripe's privacy policy.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the services that help us run the bakery, and only what they need:
- Stripe: payments and receipts
- Netlify: hosts this website and stores orders, custom order requests and visit counts
- Resend: sends our order and pickup emails
- Formspree: a backup that delivers order notifications to us if our email service has a problem
- ImprovMX: forwards email sent to our @jessysbakes.com addresses to our inbox
- Google Fonts: serves the fonts on this site, so Google sees your browser's request for them
We'll also share information if the law requires it, or to protect our customers or our business from fraud. We never sell or rent your information.
How long we keep it
We keep order and payment records for as long as we need them for our business and tax records. We keep waitlist emails until you ask to be removed, and visit counts for as long as they help us understand the site. Ask us and we'll delete anything we don't have to keep by law.
Your choices and rights
Email jess@jessysbakes.com to:
- see the information we have about you
- correct it
- delete it (except records we must keep by law)
- stop hearing from us
We'll answer within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example, California or Virginia), you may have these rights under state law, and we offer them to everyone.
Security
The site uses HTTPS, payments go through Stripe, and our order tools are password-protected. No system is perfect, but we take care with your information and only keep what we need.
Children
This site is meant for adults placing orders. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child has sent us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
